The Chapel

Church in the wildwood

There is a song that’s been tumbling around in my head ever since I was a little kid. I don't know if I heard it in church, but it’s about a little brown church in the wildwood. Then one day I stumbled into this clearing and there it was!

“Come to the church by the wildwood Oh, come to the church in the vale No spot is so dear to my childhood As the little brown church in the vale.”

Jeffrey Alan Cook, Randy Owen, Teddy Wayne Gentry

Several large, perfectly arranged logs make for nice pews and the aisle leads directly down to the most splendid baptistry I’ve ever seen. With the light streaming in through the tree branches you can sit for hours listening to birdsong, frog choruses, duck and goose conversations, insects buzzing, and small creatures scritch-scratching around under the leafy carpet.

If you sit very still you might hear the earth breathing—and if you stay very, very quiet

you might hear the voice of God whispering "Come".
