Easter Surprise

Chocolate bunnies not involved.

The snowstorm on Easter was not a surprise at all. In fact the forecast was unusually accurate. I woke up to blowing snow showers and by the time I got out on the trail there were about five inches of serious spring snow on the ground. I went searching for a colorful Easter treasure hidden in the woods and found an exceptional one.

“The snow has not yet left the earth but spring is already asking to enter your heart...”

Anton Chekhov

One of my favorite wetlands had turned into a swath of iridescent pewter. Mottled reflections of branches, twigs and grasses hovered above the shiny-smudgy surface of the water that had become liquid just a few days ago. Like an antique mirror with the silver backing flaking off, its reflection bears an indistinct but promising image of the potential energy at hand.
